The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has concluded a comprehensive environmental impact assessment on seven herbicide active ingredients for managing noxious weeds and invasive species across 79 million acres of public lands in the western U.S.
“One of the BLM’s highest priorities is to promote the health of our public lands, and one of the greatest obstacles to achieving this goal is the rapid expansion of noxious and invasive weeds,” said Sharif Branham, BLM assistant director for Resources and Planning.
The agency’s consideration of new ingredients, such as Indaziflam, registered by the Environmental Protection Agency, underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance herbicide effectiveness and combat potential resistance in invasive plant communities.
BLM conducted a virtual public meeting during the draft environmental impact statement process and is available at tinyurl.com/mrty5tnj. The BLM expects to publish a record of decision regarding this proposal in February.
