The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) gathered nearly 2,700 feral horses near Winnemucca, NV, in early February.
A total of 2,692 horses were gathered, with 2,689 horses removed and three horses released back to the range.
“The gather was critical to ensuring the health of public lands within the East Pershing Complex, and the wild horses, both of which are at risk due to herd overpopulation and severe drought conditions,” said Sam Burton, BLM Winnemucca District manager.
Horses were transported to the Winnemucca Off-Range Corrals located in Paradise Valley, NV, to be prepared for the BLM’s adoption program. Horses not adopted or sold will be placed in long-term pastures.
