Bill would use grazing to reduce wildfires

The Strategic Grazing to Reduce the Risk of Wildfire Act, introduced by Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and John Curtis (R-UT), would direct federal agencies to use targeted grazing to reduce wildfire risks.

The legislation would require the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service to work with grazing allotment holders, states, Tribes and local fire departments to implement grazing strategies.

“This bill takes a wildfire prevention and mitigation strategy that’s been proven to work and puts it in place at the federal level,” Cortez Masto said.

    Why not leave the wild horses to it. Why if this is such a good idea did they want to remove the wild cattle from the Ishi Wilderness??

    As a producer who has had to move cattle all over the west as aums were reduced over the years I feel some consideration should be given to people who no longer have existing permits for additional allotted grazing.
