The recently introduced Stop Corporate Capture Act would codify the Chevron deference doctrine and also reduce the influence of corporations on federal rulemaking processes.

The legislation was introduced by a group of Democratic senators as a companion to last year’s House Resolution 1507.

The Supreme Court of the United States recently overturned the so-called Chevron doctrine, which acknowledged courts should defer to agencies to write rules and regulations to implement laws passed by Congress.

“This bill rightly remedies an egregious power grab from the U.S. Supreme Court while creating a more transparent and equitable federal rulemaking process,” said Earthjustice Vice President of Policy and Legislation Raúl García in support of the bill.
