A group of senators introduced the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) Improvement and Flexibility Act in an effort to bolster the conservation program.
Sens. Jerry Moran (R-KS), John Thune (R-SD), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) introduced the legislation on July 31. The bill intends to improve access to grazing, maximize enrollment options and expedite emergency haying in response to weather-related disasters.
“The Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) has long advocated for additional grazing opportunities on CRP acres,” said Matt Teagarden, CEO of KLA. “Grazing benefits the native grass species, advancing the conservation goals of the program.
