In recent weeks, a rash of semitrailers loaded with meat have been stolen from the Lineage Logistics facility in Grand Island, NE.
On Sept. 16, two trailers were reported stolen with an estimated $493,407 worth of meat, and a third trailer was reported as stolen on Sept. 18. However, Grand Island police Capt. Jim Duering believes the third theft occurred on Sept. 16. The estimated value of the third stolen trailer and cargo is $273,329. At this time, the trailers and the meat are still missing.
A similar incident occurred in June when two stolen semitrucks were used to steal three semitrailers loaded with meat. The Nebraska State Patrol recovered both trucks and two trailers outside Grand Island city limits. The recovered trailers were empty, and the third trailer is still missing and is believed to have contained about $232,666 worth of beef from the JBS beef plant.
A similar event was reported in Iowa on Sept. 1 when a semitruck and three trailers loaded with pork products were reported stolen from the JBS pork facility in Ottumwa, IA. The truck and all three trailers were later found abandoned, but the thieves removed all of the pork.
