The UK will continue to keep hormone-treated beef out of the UK in the event of a new trade deal with the U.S. following Brexit.
Environment Secretary Theresa Villiers told BBC the current ban on hormone-treated beef, as well as chlorine-washed chicken, will carry over into UK legislation after the UK leaves the European Union (EU).
“We will defend our national interests and our values, including our high standards of animal welfare,” Villiers said.
The EU maintains the stance that hormone-treated beef could result in harm to humans.
Villiers had also previously discussed imposing tariffs on any future imports of U.S. beef and chicken.
