At least 10 people throughout six states were stricken with salmonella from August to September from contaminated ground beef.
These incidences were more severe than others because the particular strain of salmonella, salmonella Dublin, infects the bloodstream and requires hospitalization.
The source of the illness has finally been discovered.
Central Valley Meat Co., a Hanford, CA, establishment, recalled more than 34,000 pounds of ground beef products on Nov. 15.
The products were produced on July 23 and were labeled as 1-lb. chub packages of Stater Bros. 100 percent pure ground beef, 96 percent lean; 2-lb. chub packages of Stater Bros. 100 percent pure ground beef, 93 percent lean; and 20-lb. cases of Stater Bros. 93/7 ground beef.
The items were shipped to retail locations in California.
USDA Food Safety Inspection Service advises consumers to throw away any frozen products linked to the illness.
