Prairie Packing of Williston, ND is being purchased by Oregon-based Yellowstone River Beef in an attempt to reach export markets.

A $72,000 grant from the Williston City Commission will support the renovation of the packing plant.

Yellowstone River Beef plans to convert the facility into an operation to reach Asian markets, as well as continue to offer local custom processing.

“This allows Yellowstone River Beef to have a traceable product and control the process from calf to final cut,” Trevor Abell, one of the owners of Yellowstone River Beef, said in a press release.

The plant will be one of the only USDA-inspected processing plants in the region.
