Beef Bits Brief: McDonald’s unveils “McPlant” product

McDonald’s announced earlier this month it is rolling out a plant-based burger option named the “McPlant” burger next year.

“McPlant is crafted exclusively for McDonald’s, by McDonald’s. In the future, McPlant could extend across a line of plant-based products, including burgers, chicken substitutes and breakfast sandwiches,” said Ian Frederick Borden, president of International for McDonald’s, during the company’s annual Investor Day.

Beyond Meat tested a plant-based burger in Canada called the PLT (Plant, Lettuce, Tomato) with McDonald’s, but the pilot program was discontinued.
