The Korean government banned beef imports from European Union (EU) member states following an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in 2001.
After nearly 20 years, the ban has now been lifted. Denmark and Netherlands producers will be the first countries able to resume exports.
“Following confirmation of access for Danish and Dutch operators, I hope that it won’t be long before operators in other EU member states are approved for export to this important and valuable market,” said European Commissioner for Agriculture Phil Hogan.
He also added that the European Commission will continue to work with Korea to open up markets in additional member states.
