Beef Bits Brief: COVID cases at JBS Greeley

JBS USA has seen an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases at its Greeley, CO, beef processing plant, according to Meat+Poultry.

Officials with United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 7 said about 40 workers tested positive for COVID-19 in early January.

“We are actively working to limit any potential spread in the workplace,” said JBS spokesperson Nikki Richardson. “As many Americans are witnessing, the impacts of this variant have been less severe for many, particularly for the vaccinated.”

Richardson stated the cases have been mild or asymptomatic and that 80 percent of workers have been vaccinated, with 35 percent receiving the booster. Richardson also said JBS is closely monitoring cases among its workforce and the surrounding community. The facility requires face masks, conducts daily health screenings and offers drive-through testing.
