In an event of Friday the 13th luck, Cargill’s Dodge City, KS plant was struck by a fire the afternoon of Sept. 13.
Dodge City fire chief says crews found a fire in the vent system in the rendering side of the plant.
He says some workers were welding while others watched for sparks, but a stray spark ignited some grease on fire.
The fire was quickly put out by firefighters, but one person had to be transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but is expected to be OK.
Cargill officials say the fire was minor enough that it will not affect plant operations.
