Nearly 65,000 pounds of raw beef products have been recalled due to possible E. coli contamination, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Oct. 18.
The raw beef products were produced between Sept. 23 and Oct. 10 from Pride of Florida, a Raiford, FL, facility.
The potentially-infected products include ground beef, beef steaks and ground beef patties.
Items were shipped to commercial distributors and a cold storage warehouse in Florida, but products had already been shipped out to retail before contamination discovery.
Products may still be in commercial distributors’ freezers and distributors have been urged to throw them out.
E. coli is potentially very dangerous and can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
Most affected people recover within a week, but some develop kidney failure.
FSIS advises to always safely prepare raw meat products and cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160 F (well done).
