Awards Arena: Western National Roundup winners

During the Western National Roundup 100th year held early January 2020 in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show, FFA and 4-H kids from around the country took home ribbons for their knowledge of livestock and teamwork.

For beef cattle judging, the winners were Shawn Agar of New Mexico for 4-H and Brody Nemecek of Kansas for FFA.

For sheep judging, the winners were Reed Hedrick of Indiana for 4-H and Maggie Johnson of Indiana for FFA. For meat judging, there were both individual and team winners.

They were as follows: 4-H individual, Anna Wyle of Texas; 4-H team, Texas; FFA individual, Taylor McGill of Oklahoma; and FFA team, Texas.

Top placers in the Livestock Quiz Bowl were Caitlyn Curry of Utah (first), Hunter Schumann of Texas (second), and Caroline Meer of Indiana (third).

The goal of the Western National Roundup is to provide a place for “youth to compete nationally while encouraging teamwork and self-confidence, and while focusing on the 4-H Mission Mandates: Science, Engineering, Technology, Mathematics, Healthy Living and Citizenship.”

Participant eligibility for the 2020 roundup (held in early January 2021) requires potential participants to have been between the ages of 14-18 as of Jan. 1, 2020.
