Awards Arena: Many awards for North Dakota ranchers

The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) held its annual convention last month and presented numerous awards during its special awards banquet.

These awards included: Honorary Members (Dr. Greg Lardy of West Fargo and Sherry Schulz of Bismarck); employee recognition for dedicated service (Cliff Sanders, Jr., of Clifford, Arly Schumacher of Hazelton, Willy Sevland of Granville, Joe Roshau of Dickinson, and Rodney Lutz of Hettinger); Rancher of the Year Award (Logan County’s Rivinius Ranch, including Ron and Marian Rivinius and their sons, Ryan and Dan, and their families); Top Hand Award (Melvin Leland of McKenzie County); Honorary Local Brand Inspector Award (Jim Sagvold of Sheldon); Environmental Stewardship Award (Star X Ranch of Baker, MT, run by Turk and Toni Stark along with their children, Judd (Tawny) Stark, and Amanda (Jay) Berg); four $500 Legacy Scholarships (Kyle Kostelecky of Dickinson, Shaye Koester of Steele, Iris Dukart of Manning, and Madison Baumgartner of Bismarck); $500 Endowment Scholarship (Chase Bader of Lehr); $500 Tokach Angus Ranch Memorial Scholarship (Mattie Schmitt of Rugby); $500 Junior Scholarship (Grace Dragseth of Watford City); and the $750 Jack and Vander Reich Memorial Endowment Scholarship (Sydney Tastad of Rolette).

NDSA officers were also reelected at the convention. According to a group announcement, members tapped cow-calf producer Dan Rorvig of McVille for a second term as the organization’s president. Jeff Schafer, a 30-year member from New Rockford, was also reelected NDSA vice president.

Members also elected or reelected six directors to represent their respective districts, including: Cliff Sanders, Jr. of Clifford for District 1; Brian McDonald of Leonard for District 2; Tim Erbele of Streeter for District 3; Joel Opp of Hebron for District 4; Pete Best of Watford City for District 5; and Gary Martens of Ross for District 6.

Other members of the NDSA Board of Directors and Executive Committee include: NDSA Immediate Past President Warren Zenker of Gackle; District 1 Directors Justin Maddock of Maddock, Levi Rue of Sheyenne, and Erika Kenner of Leeds; District 2 Directors Brian Amundson of Jamestown, Gene Heinrich of Medina, and Jeffrey Breker of Havana; District 3 Directors Tim Erbele of Streeter, Craig Kemmet of Tappen, and Lowell Malard of Bismarck; District 4 Directors Jamie Hauge of Carson, Al Gustin of Mandan, and Casey Voigt of Beulah; District 5 Directors Pete Best of Watford City, Joe Schettler of Killdeer, and Calli Thorne of Watford City; and District 6 Directors Shane Anderson of Towner, Dennis Jacobson of Wildrose, and Kevin Hansen of Ryder.
