Montana Farm Bureau Discussion Meet winner Rocky Forseth competed in the national Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) Discussion Meet at the American Farm Bureau Convention Jan. 18 in Austin, TX.
The Discussion Meet resembles a committee meeting with the end goal of determining solutions to a question.
Questions were centered around food production technology, cell-based proteins, and the current agricultural labor shortage.
Forseth discussed the importance of educating consumers and youth about agriculture, and using science and transparency in production.
“I want to ensure that there is always an ‘and’ and not an ‘or’ when consumers open the refrigerator door,” Forseth said.
There is a place for conventionally produced food as well as food using the new technology.”
Forseth is the cochair of the YF&R Committee for the Lewis & Clark County Farm Bureau, and currently has a small herd of registered cattle.
