Argentina has lifted its 52-year ban on exporting live cattle for slaughter. The ban was originally imposed in 1973 due to supply issues.
“The export of cattle on the hoof is an active and important market in the world,” wrote Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzenegger on X, in a post translated from Spanish. “Most cattle-producing countries allow it (92 countries export cattle on the hoof).”
In September, USDA projected Argentine beef exports in 2025 to reach a record 860,000 tons following a larger herd and calf crops.
