Colorado’s Natural Resources Conservation Service opened applications for enrollment in the state’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). It is a voluntary program that provides financial assistance for conservation efforts on Colorado farm or ranch land. Examples include animal waste management facilities, irrigation system efficiency improvements, fencing, water supply development, riparian protection, and wildlife habitat enhancement. The state’s EQIP priorities include: reduction of nonpoint source pollution; conservation of ground and surface water resources; reduction of emissions; reduction in soil erosion and sedimentation from unacceptable levels on agricultural land; promotion of at-risk species habitat conservation; energy conservation to help save fuel; and biological carbon storage and sequestration. Interested producers have until Dec. 15 to submit applications.
