North Dakota confirmed its first case of anthrax this year in a beef cattle herd in Stark County, according to the North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab.
State Veterinarian Dr. Ethan Andress said, “This is the first case we have had in Stark County but have had cases in nearby counties in the past.”
He urged producers in affected areas to consult veterinarians on vaccination needs and to report unusual losses. Effective vaccines are available but require annual boosters.
In 2024, one case was reported in Adams County, compared to 25 cases across three counties in 2023.
