Members of the American Angus Association have developed the largest single beef breed database through participation in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) program.
This database supports the National Cattle Evaluation, conducted weekly by Angus Genetics Inc., and used by producers worldwide for selection decisions.
In August, AHIR introduced the Data Driven Herd recognition program to acknowledge herds submitting phenotypes on multiple traits annually. Recognition is given at bronze, silver or gold levels based on the percentage of herd traits submitted, with qualifying herds listed on angus.org. To be eligible, herds must be enrolled in AHIR’s Inventory Reporting program with at least five cows, submit required phenotypes and register at least half the active cow inventory during the award year.
