American Prairie has acquired additional land in Montana for its conservation efforts, bringing the total amount to more than 460,000 acres.
The organization’s latest acquisition is a 4,960-acre property on the eastern border of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Phillips County, MT. About 1,800 acres are under a conservation easement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the intent of protecting and promoting waterfowl habitat.
“This area provides critical habitat for a myriad of bird species which have suffered serious declines in recent decades, including Sprague’s pipit, chestnut-collared longspur, and mountain plover,” said Alison Fox, American Prairie CEO.
The group plans to share public access details for recreational uses in the coming future.
