AGA announces new indexes and EPDs

American Gelbvieh Association

The American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) announced three new economic indexes and four new EPDs to help cattle producers make more informed selection decisions.

The Maternal Profit Index (MPI) supports herds that sell calves at weaning and retain replacements, with a focus on traits such as calving ease, milk production and mature weight. The Feeder Profit Index (FPI) is strictly terminal, weighting carcass and feed efficiency traits for finished beef production. The Total Profit Index (TPI) combines maternal and terminal qualities to achieve balanced herds.

New EPDs include Mature Weight, Cow Energy Requirement-Yearly, Dry Matter Intake and $GAIN, improving efficiency and profitability. Updated indexes and EPDs are now available on animal profiles at Gelbvieh.org. For more information, contact the AGA office at 303-465-2333.
