Awards Arena: Zimmerman named Ranch Hand of Year

Ross Zimmerman was named Ranch Hand of the Year at the 31st annual Ranch Hand Rodeo competition in Winnemucca, NV.

“Ross Zimmerman has been an important figure in the ranching communities in Humboldt County,” said Agricultural District No. 3 President Kent Maher.

“He deserves this honor and the chance to stand alongside our other greats who have strengthened our local ranching heritage.”

Zimmerman was born in Petaluma, CA, and moved with his family to Nevada when he was a child.

He attended Oregon State University to study veterinary medicine, and attended Colorado State University for vet school.

Zimmerman and his partner Dodie and their daughters Bonnie and Ann moved to the RO Ranch in Round Mountain, NV, and ran cattle, in addition to Zimmerman working as a vet.

The family eventually welcomed Karen and John to the growing family and moved to Winnemucca in 1991.

In 1996, Ross bought Dr. Cannon’s veterinary practice in Winnemucca. Bonnie graduated veterinary school in 1997 and joined him at the Zimmerman Veterinary Clinic.

The “Ranch Hand of the Year” award is sponsored by the Agricultural District No. 3 as a way to recognize those men and women who make their living in the ranching industry.
