DTN Analyst John Harrington takes a look at the Canadian beef checkoff and the country’s apparent attempt at more aggressive beef marketing. He notes, “… between checkoff reform and real progress in trade negotiations, I think Canada has just stolen a march or two on its beef partner and competitor to the south.”

A lot of trade talk was going on in the last full week of January. The U.S. issues tariffs against China, the sixth NAFTA talks began, and a new TPP was announced without the U.S.

The fifth round of renegotiating NAFTA officially started Friday, Nov. 17, but government sources confirmed they started earlier. Elsewhere, TPP is going through.
