The commonsense process of buying bulls has not changed much. The requirements are simple. The bull needs four decent legs, a bit of appropriate muscle indicative of the product, and a functioning reproductive system. Cost usually determines which bull one brings home.

BEEF bits

Tyson Foods Inc. said recently that its president and CEO, Dick Bond, was stepping down immediately in a move he said was in the best interest of himself and the company. Bond will be replaced on an interim basis by former chairman and CEO Leland Tollett, the company said in a statement.

Premier horse sale will gather buyers in Winnemucca

Some of the Wests best work and show horses will be up for bid next February as part of Nevadas favorite ranch hand weekend. The Winnemucca Ranch Hand Rodeo weekend will celebrate its 20th year from Thursday, Feb. 26 through Sunday, March 1, 2009. Thirty teams will vie for honors Saturday and Sunday at the Ranch Hand Rodeo.

OBITUARY

John Henry Dimke

Dimke was born in Lewiston on Jan. 14, 1949. Raised in Clarkston, he graduated from Clarkston High School in 1967 and then attended Lewis-Clark State College. The following year, he married Janice, his perfect match, even 40 years later.

Grants awarded for Colorado renewable energy projects

Fourteen grants totaling more than $620,000 have been awarded through the Advancing Colorados Renewable Energy (ACRE) program. ACRE is administered by the Colorado Agricultural Value Added Development Board which encourages and promotes business projects that add value to agricultural products, as well as agricultural energy-related projects.
